How We Play

Our process for finding, testing, and recommending games. Transparency about how we decide what goes on the list.

The Five-Step Process

01

Discover & Screen

We browse Google Play, read independent game publications, and follow game developers we trust. When we find a candidate, we check the following immediately:

  • Is it free or reasonably priced? (Max $9.99 on our list)
  • Does the store listing show signs of aggressive monetization?
  • Are user reviews mentioning pay-to-win or stamina gates?
  • Is the game actively maintained (recent updates)?

Games that fail any of these checks are eliminated. We don't waste time testing games with obvious red flags.

02

Install & Early Game

We install the game and play through the first 30 minutes without spending money. This tells us:

  • Is the onboarding fair? Do tutorials explain the core loop?
  • Does the game feel good on mobile? (Responsiveness, UI clarity)
  • Are there any aggressive pop-ups, ads, or paywalls in the first 30 minutes?
  • Does the early game motivate you to keep playing?

If the first 30 minutes feel off, we stop here. A great game needs a great first impression.

03

Progression & Systems

We play until we hit a progression wall or unlock the first meaningful system. This reveals how the game monetizes:

  • Do progression walls require spending or are they skill-based?
  • Are there stamina/energy systems that gate play time?
  • Are cosmetics-only or do upgrades matter for progression?
  • Is the monetization honest or hidden in vague language?

Games with stamina gates, aggressive paywalls, or predatory mechanics are eliminated here.

04

Deep Play

For games that pass steps 1-3, we commit to a full playthrough or 10+ hours of play (whichever comes first). This is where we form real opinions about game quality:

  • Does the core loop stay engaging or does it stale after an hour?
  • Are difficulty curves balanced or does it spike unfairly?
  • Does the game respect your time or feel like busywork?
  • Are there technical bugs, crashes, or performance issues?

Only games that remain engaging at 10 hours move forward.

05

Swap Decision

When we want to add a new game, we compare it directly to the game it would replace. The new game must be notably better across at least two dimensions (gameplay, monetization, design, longevity, uniqueness). If it's close, the existing game stays.

This high bar is why our list updates slowly and why every game on it has earned its place.

Quality Over Quantity

Five games. That's all we ever list. When we find something great, something else moves down. We're not here to be comprehensive; we're here to be honest. The goal is not to play every game on Google Play, it's to share the five we think are genuinely worth your time.

What Disqualifies a Game

  • Gambling mechanics or loot boxes with monetary value
  • Stamina/energy systems that gate play time
  • Aggressive ads, even optional ones that interrupt gameplay
  • Mature content (PEGI 16+, ESRB Teen+ with violence/substance references)
  • Predatory UI patterns (fake scarcity, dark patterns, manipulative timers)
  • Pay-to-win mechanics that gate meaningful progression
  • Games that are poorly maintained or abandoned by developers

Transparency

We're an independent crew. We don't take sponsorships, we don't have affiliate links, and we don't monetize this site. Our only incentive is to give you a list of games we genuinely believe in. If a game on our list becomes problematic (monetization shifts, critical bugs, or abandonment), we update the list immediately.

Found a game you think we should know about? Send us a message. We read everything. We can't guarantee it'll make the list, but we promise to test it fairly.
